Syllabus of CS Executive & Professional Programme Exam

** The Institute has been conducting OMR based Examination in the following three papers of the Executive Programme (Old Syllabus – 2012) and Executive Programme (New Syllabus- 2017):
Executive Programme (New Syllabus – 2017) Papers Module
Tax Laws I
Corporate and Management Accounting II
Financial and Strategic Management II

** In the above subjects, candidate’s knowledge, competency and proficiency would be examined through objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) under OMR mode of examination.

** However, in the following remaining four papers/subjects of Executive Programme, (Old Syllabus – 2012) and five papers/subjects of Executive Programme (New Syllabus – 2017), candidates would be examined through descriptive mode of examination:
Jurisprudence, Interpretation and General Laws I
Company Law I
Setting up of Business Entities and Closure I
Securities Laws and Capital Markets II
Economic, Business and Commercial Laws II

** In OMR based examination, each paper shall be of three hours duration having 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of one mark each. The questions shall be of average, above average and difficult level covering the entire syllabus.
** In case, the syllabus of any paper is divided into different Parts, i.e., Part – A, Part – B, etc., requisite number of questions shall be asked from the respective Part corresponding to the weightage of marks as prescribed in the syllabus.
** Each question shall contain four answer options and the candidate shall be required to select one option as his/her correct answer and mark in the OMR answer sheet by darkening the respective circle with blue/black ball point pen.

** Negative marks shall be applied for wrong answers attempted by the candidates in the ratio of 1: 4, i.e. deduction of one (1) mark for every four (4) wrong answers or proportion thereof , i.e., 0.25 mark for each wrong answer and total marks obtained by the candidates in such papers would be rounded up to next whole number.

** Previous session(s) question papers of OMR based examination in the respect of Executive Programme (Old Syllabus – 2012) and Executive Programme (New Syllabus – 2017) are available on the website of the Institute for the reference of the students.

** Detailed instructions for appearing in OMR based examination would be hosted on the website of the Institute as well as published in the Student Company Secretary e-journal and also provided along with the e-Admit Card of the candidates.

FAQs on CS Exam Guidelines

Q.1 What are the Exams in which ICSI provides Ranks?
Ans. The ICSI provides ranks to Candidates separately in each stage of CS Examination, i.e. Executive and Professional Programme.

Q.2 What are the requirement to be eligible to be a Rank holder?

Ans. The ICSI provides ranks in order of Merit to Candidates who:
i. have passed all papers of a stage of Examination in single attempt
ii. have not claimed any exemptions in any paper
iii. attain upto 10th Rank in order of Merit irrespective of Percentage of Marks secured by them

Q.3 Does ICSI provide Rank to Candidates beyond top 10?

Ans. The ICSI provides additional Ranks upto and including 25th Rank to Candidates who secure 55% or more marks in aggregate considering the highest percentage of Marks of that stage of Examination.

Q.4 Does the performance of Candidates in earlier stages of Examination has any impact on the Rank provided to Candidates for the current Examination?
Ans. The Candidates’ appearance in earlier/ previous Examination(s) has no bearing on providing Ranks to Candidates for the current Examination.

Q.5 What happens with Ranks if two or more Candidates secure equal Marks/ percentage of Marks?

Ans. Candidates securing equal Marks/ percentage of Marks shall be considered as Joint-Rank Holder and be treated at par.

Q.6 When is the Rank List displayed on Institute’s website?

Ans. The Rank List shall be displayed on Institute’s website after the closure of process under Regulation 42(2) of Company Secretaries Regulations, 1982 (process of verification of Marks).

Q.7 Does ICSI publish any Provisional Rank List displayed on Institute’s website?

Ans. ICSI displays Provisional Rank List after declaration of Result subject to the provisions of Regulation 42(2) of Company Secretaries Regulations, 1982.
